August 8 - Physical Hunger, Emotional Appetite and Your Health! With Dana Dose, RDN, LD, CDE
Do you find yourself eating when you’re not actually physically hungry? Aren’t sure what it feels like to feel physically hungry, or just satisfied enough? Is it common for you to: overeat, feel out of control with food, eat for emotional reasons (boredom, worry, depression, etc.), feel sick from eating too fast, have a hard time following through with food recommendations your doctor or dietitian has given you? This is the class for you!
During this class, you’ll be given tools that will start you on a path to: increase awareness around your own body’s hunger/fullness signaling, slow down and notice how your body is responding to food, and address emotions before they land you halfway through, for example, a gallon of ice cream or large bag of chips. Learn to honor your body, needs, and health, by distinguishing “appetite” from “hunger” and eating to satisfy physical hunger sensations - while engaging in other more appropriate activities to satisfy emotional needs.
August 22 - Fuel your life! With Jill Whisler, MS, RD and Liz Schenk, BS, MBA, NBC-HWC
When we think about energy and high performance outside of athletics, we often approach this from the neck up. We look at juggling a demanding job and family life differently than say running a marathon. When life gets busy, we sacrifice physical activity, proper nutrition, or sleep so we can get more done. But are we really getting more done? What happens to the quality of our work when we eat nutrient empty foods, stop exercising or sleep 5 hours a night?
How do you think Serena Williams would do if she ate nothing but pizza, slept 5 hours a night and did not train for months before Wimbledon? While there is no doubt Williams has innate talent, she would likely not perform at her best.
In this Your Authentic Wellness session, we will discuss the mutually reinforcing aspects of food, movement, recovery, and energy. Whether you are actually running a marathon or feel like you do everyday this talk is for you!
