Dr. Shanser has lived full-time in Squaw Valley since 2009 and is a founding member of the Friends of Squaw Valley (FoSV), whose mission is to "improve the quality of life for Squaw Valley residents and visitors and preserve our community mountain culture by advocating for environmentally sustainable and compatible development as well as for enhanced community amenities." He now lives part-time in Vail, CO where his son and daughter-in-law live and work, and he and his wife of 50 years have skied all over the West as well as in Canada, Europe, and Japan. When not skiing, he and his wife love to cycle, paddle board, hike, and travel. He has always been interested in the socio-economic aspects of medicine and wants to see the Tahoe Forest Health Foundation expand its base of supporters and contributors to be as inclusive as possible of its medical staff, especially the many new physicians and other providers who have recently joined the Truckee medical community.
