What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)?

A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is your partner in health. Tahoe Forest dietitians take the time to listen and provide individualized guidance on taking steps that are meaningful and realistic for their patients. They work closely with medical providers and bridge the gap between desired health outcomes and everyday lifestyle habits that add up help you achieve your healthiest self.

What are top reasons people see a dietitian?

Disease prevention, disease management (diabetes, heart disease, celiac, etc.), weight management, child nutrition (growth concerns, picky eating, infant nutrition, nutrient deficiencies, etc.), eating disorders/disordered eating, gut health, food sensitivities and allergies.

What should I expect during my appointment with a dietitian?

You will be asked to complete an intake form prior to your visit. When you arrive, your dietitian will take time to get to know you and ask more questions about your current lifestyle. Occasionally, with your permission, the dietitian might perform a Nutrition Focused Physical Exam. They work with the medical providers to request lab orders, when necessary. You’ll always leave with some personalized actionable steps to take and/or some new information to consider when making food choices.

How can a dietitian help me?

Our dietitians are trained to spend time listening to and counseling patients on taking practical steps to improving their health. They simplify complex nutrition concepts to help you use food as your medicine. Patients see RDN visits as a safe space to ask questions, share their health and lifestyle concerns, and to be heard. RD’s provide a fresh perspective on day‐to‐day choices that inspire and motivate their patients to think about choices in a new way. This often involves separating media‐driven nutrition myths from evidence‐based recommendations. Your dietitian can also help guide you on advocating for your health at medical visits and can help communicate with your doctor about concerns and needs.
