Rethink Healthy: Anchor Box

Announcing Anchor Box Pilot at Tahoe Forest in recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

A small act of kindness to share with patients or team members who are struggling.

What is an Anchor Box?

Anchor Boxes were started by Find Your Anchor, a grassroots movement aimed at suicide prevention, awareness, and education. With creativity and a personal touch, Find Your Anchor aims to support those who may be struggling and destigmatize conversations surrounding suicide and mental health. Check out this brief 3-minute video about Anchor Boxes.

Anchor Boxes at TFHS

In June 2023, the Zero Suicide Initiative of TFHS launched the Anchor Box pilot to help patients and team members experiencing suicidal ideation identify an “anchor” or their reason to live. Anchor Boxes include stickers, resource cards, and other tangible items that give hope and validation. Community Health has distributed 70 Anchor Boxes throughout the health system. Anchor Boxes can be given to any patient or TFHS team member who is struggling with thoughts of suicide. There is no fee to the recipient to receive an Anchor Box, and it is theirs to keep and to pass on when the time feels right.

If you know someone who would benefit from an Anchor Box, you can request one directly from Find Your Anchor.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, call or text 988 the nationwide Suicide and Crisis Lifeline available 24/7.

Flourish Though Menopause- Interactive Discussion with Liz Schenk

Menopause affects each woman differently. It feels like our bodies change overnight, and what we used to do to stay in shape no longer works. We may not be sleeping well, our body composition changes and our energy is low, not to mention the hot flushes and brain fog! At the same time, during the menopause transition, many of us experience other changes, like becoming empty nesters, changing careers or retiring, caring for elders, and much more.

Quinoa, Feta, Dill and Garbanzo Bean Salad

Recipe of the Month: Quinoa, Feta, Dill and Garbanzo Bean Salad

Back to school means back to packing lunches. But don’t forget about feeding yourself. This great make ahead dish can easily pack up for lunch on the go.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of uncooked quinoa
  • Sea Salt
  • ¼ cup chopped chives or scallions
  • ¼ chopped fresh dill
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh mint
  • 1 15-oz can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup red wine vinegar
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 6-8 cups arugula or spinach
  • ½ cup feta, crumbled or 1/3 cup of sunflower seeds

Directions:

  • Combine quinoa and 4 cups of water in a small saucepan. Add a pinch of salt, cover and bring to a boil. Turn off heat and let the quinoa cook, covered, for about 10 minutes, or until water is well absorbed.
  • In the meantime, place the herbs and garbanzo beans in a bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and vinegar. When the quinoa is done cooking, let it cool for a few minutes before fluffing and adding it to the bowl. Mix gently to combine. When you are ready to serve gently fold in the arugula and sprinkle feta on top.
  • To make ahead, leave the greens out until ready to serve.
  • Makes 4-6 servings. Prep Time 20 minutes.
