Pediatric physical therapy focuses on helping children reach their maximal functional level of independence. Pediatric physical therapists (PTs) work with children, birth through adolescence, and their families to promote independence and active participation in home, school, and community environments. They address a variety of areas including developmental motor skills, balance, strength, body awareness, and coordination.
The pediatric PTs at Tahoe Forest Hospital collaborate with each family to promote their child’s development and implement an individualized intervention program. This process begins with a conversation and comprehensive evaluation to identify your child’s unique needs, strengths, and family’s goals. Treatment then focuses on improving these areas with a fun and often play-based approach. Pediatric PTs commonly support children with a variety on diagnoses including:
- Gross motor delay
- Torticollis/Plagiocephaly
- Toe walking
- Scoliosis
- Hypotonia and hypertonia
- Cerebral Palsy
- Down Syndrome
- Myelomeningocele
- Genetic conditions
- Developmental vision
- Pelvic floor health
- Pediatric orthopedic conditions
