Tahoe Forest Hospital District was founded in 1949 by the residents it serves and is governed by a five-member board of directors elected by the voters of the District. They lend their expertise, knowledge and commitment to direct our Mission, Vision and Values.
Alyce Wong, Chair
Alyce Wong is originally from Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University and her master’s degree from the University of Colorado. She has had a long and illustrious career in nursing. During her career, Ms. Wong has participated in nursing activities on the national level through Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honorary, American Academy of Medical Surgical Nursing and the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Ms Wong has held a wide range of positions in nursing in a variety of healthcare settings that has taken her from Ohio, Hawaii, Colorado, Utah and, finally, to California. She has been a clinical nurse, an educator, a university professor and a nursing leader. Ms. Wong has had healthcare experience in hospital settings from university, community, rural and, most recently, at Tahoe Forest Hospital District.
During her tenure at Tahoe Forest, Ms. Wong chaired the Nursing Planning and Development Committee, which lead the Nursing Service Department to national recognition by the American Nursing Credentialing Center with the Pathway to Excellence Award. She and her husband, Keith, live in Glenshire. Ms. Wong was elected to the TFHD Hospital Board in 2016.
Mary Brown, Director
Mary Brown is a retired, community-newspaper publisher from the Bay Area. Ms. Brown became fascinated with hospitals when, as a child, her father, a surgeon in San Francisco, would take her on weekend rounds. This fascination has led to almost 25 years of hospital governance.
Mary served on the boards on several leading hospitals and medical centers in the East Bay and, ultimately, sat for nine years on the Board of Sutter Health, a not for profit health system in Northern California. She was appointed to the Tahoe Forest Hospital District board in June 2017.
Mary Brown resides in Truckee with her husband, Chip. Two of their children and six of their grandchildren live in Truckee, as well.
Dale Chamblin, Director
Mr. Chamblin earned a degree in Business and Finance from UC Berkeley and for most of his career was the Chief Finance Officer for a multi-state corporation. He has served on many community projects, programs and local non-profits such as the Tahoe City Rotary Club, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and chairman of the Tahoe Forest Hospital District’s Citizen’s Oversight Committee for Measure C. Dale was appointed to the Tahoe Forest Hospital District Board of Directors to fulfill a vacancy and elected two years later. Dale is an avid outdoorsman, ski instructor and enjoys mountain biking in the region. He and his wife Pam live in Tahoe Vista.
Michael McGarry, Director
Michael McGarry is the Founder and President of Forvida, a customer-focused consulting firm passionate about developing health solutions that engage individuals and make health an everyday event. He launched Forvida in 2015 with more than 20 years’ experience in the health care industry, developing innovative programs and medical devices from prototype through FDA approval within small start-up organizations and Fortune 500 medical companies.
Prior to founding Forvida, Mr. McGarry worked as the Director, Innovations Accelerator Team, at Ascension, the largest non-profit health care provider in the United States, with facilities in 26 states, 150,000-plus associates, and approximately 18 million patient visits annually. In this role, Mr. McGarry was responsible for the evaluation of technologies and development of new business models focusing on how to meet health-related needs in the future in a way that extends beyond hospitals and clinics.
Previously, Mr. McGarry managed the design, development, and launch of a custom remote patient monitoring system for Alere Medical to improve care for patients with chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and diabetes. Mr. McGarry has been responsible for the design, development, and clinical evaluation of numerous therapeutic cardiovascular products and directed physician training for and market evaluation of products in both the U.S. and Europe. Mr. McGarry has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, an MBA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business, and several published patents and publications.
Robert E. Barnett, Director
Prior to moving to Olympic Valley, CA, Robert Barnett served as a trial lawyer for 45 years with an office in Fairfield, CA, and a practice that covered San Francisco to Sacramento, and Napa to Stockton. Mr. Barnett’s practice included extensive medical legal work where he handled over 6,000 personal injury cases with close scrutiny to medical care. Mr. Barnett is now actively involved in projects and groups that focus on building the Tahoe community.
Mr. Barnett is a graduate of Occidental College where he received his Economics degree with honors. He received his Law degree from the University of California, Berkeley Law. He was appointed to the TFHD Board of Directors seat in October 2021.
AB 1234 Ethics Training Certificate of Completion
Cities, counties and special districts in California are required by law (AB 1234, Chapter 700, Stats. of 2005) to provide ethics training to their local officials. The purpose of this ethics training is to educate local officials on the extensive array of laws that apply to public service, as well as the unique ethical obligations public servants have. Local officials of Tahoe Forest Hospital District have completed training that satisfies AB1234 requirements.
